A big part of social networking (both online and off) is joining in on the conversation and connecting with other people who have similar interests. Some writers are naturals at this; many others not so much (but don’t worry, I’ve been in the “not so much” category more than the “naturals” category throughout my life–so it can be done).
Take Part in a Twitter Chat
For today’s platform-building task, take part in a Twitter chat. In fact, I invite you to use the #platchal hashtag on Twitter starting at 11 a.m. (Atlanta, GA time) or again around 11 p.m. I’ll be there for a full hour (and maybe a little after) to pose and answer questions. It’ll be a great opportunity to connect and practice chatting (if you haven’t participated in one on Twitter yet).
If you can’t make either time, just use the #platchal hashtag at any time to pose questions and/or connect with other October Platform Challenge participants throughout the day and the month.

A Few Twitter Chat Tips
If you’re not sure how to participate in the Twitter chat, here are a few tips:
- Log in to your Twitter account.
- Find the #platchal hashtag. You can either search for “#platchal” at the top of the page, or you can post a tweet with “#platchal” in it and click on the hashtag link.
- Click the “Live” tab. Usually, the site defaults to the “Top” tab for hashtags, but if you select “Live,” you’ll be able to see new tweets as they come in.
